It Ain't Me Babe

Oh, no, no, it ain't me you're looking for.

My name is Zoë and I grew up wanting to be everything.

A marine biologist,

a cartoon artist,

an actress,

an activist,

a unicorn.

Those dreams fizzled as quickly as they were conceived.

The one and only true thing I wanted (and yeah, still want) deep down in my soul was to be a poet.

All of my historical idols have been poets in one form another.

Pound, Cummings, Cohen, Brautigan, Ginsberg, Atwood, Lennon,

Dylan.

Of all the poetry this beautiful world has to offer, Dylan's words have had the greatest impact on my life as an individual.

He's a poet in ways that can't be described.

His lyrical nuance, references to archaic literature, the simplicity, the complexity.

As some may have heard on my blog, I am indeed going as Bob Dylan for Halloween this year.

I feel like I have been waiting lifetimes for this moment.

Here today, is a re-imagining of Dylan.

Not necessarily for modern time.

Not necessarily as a woman.

But a just a little bit looser interpretation.

***
There's something about Dylan that keeps him in my mind at all times.

Parts of me wonder if he sold his soul to the Devil.

Parts of me wonder if God may actually exist- just based on his words alone.

Parts of me just plain wonder.

Parts of me have been molded by his poetry.

Parts of me have hated him.

All of me loves him.

And none of me would be what who I am if it weren't for him.

Thanks, Bob.

This one's for you, sir.

"I'll let you be in my dream if I can be in yours."

The Aviator

Hello, lovely Morgan and Lua readers! This is Maria, of Lulu Letty, filling in for Morgan while she gets some R&R! Today's post was so fun to shoot because Morgan had the brilliant idea for us to post about what we wanted to be when we grew up. While I wanted to be many different people in my youth, I felt no one was more amazing than Amelia Earhart! She was brilliant and brave, fearless and adventurous and to me nothing could be cooler than flying around the world!

The Adventures of Morgan and Sarah

Long, long ago--like all the way back in 2005--a sea-loving gal named Morgan felt adventure calling. At the same time, just in a very different place, a mountain-obsessed lass named Sarah heard and answered the same call. While the two did not yet know each other, to hear this call and answer simultaneously seemed to bond their hearts and spirits before their meeting, a premonition of their friendship to follow, one that knew not the bounds of time and space.
Set off on her journey, aboard an aircraft bound for London, Sarah turned around to look behind her seat.

"I like your waffle shirt," said the dark-haired girl behind her. That dark-haired girl was Morgan. And neither of them would ever forget that shirt.

As fate would have it, predestined, perhaps, by the bond previously formed, the two adventurous girls' first countryside destination was Portland, England; and lo and behold, they were assigned to the same home for a family stay. During the day, the gals became friendly, joyously taking in the beautiful rocked coast; gushing over the same little British boy; and making desperate attempts to create s'mores from English versions of biscuits and marshmallows.
Then that night, the other students rushed to Weymouth, the neighboring town, for a time likely filled with debauchery. Seeking a new experience, Morgan and Sarah were not drawn to such excursions. They explored the shadows of the seaport town; drank tea at the pub filled with tired, smelly fishermen; and, sharing bunkbeds at their family stay, giggled until all hours of the night about their homes, their plans, and their dreams. The bond of friendship was realized, confirmed, and sealed.
Now time, as it always does, along with other adventurous calls, led the two girls to various earthly corners and new paths in life. But the bond could not be broken; rather with time and distance, their friendship was strengthened.

Sarah traveled to share Morgan's love of the sea.
Morgan ventured to the mountainous center of Sarah's world.
And today, as the story goes, is a special day, for adventurous Morgan is venturing out again. Today, Morgan is making preparations to head out to the Wild West and back to her friend of years ago. Yes, today, Morgan is packing for Denver, for Sarah's home, for an extended weekend reunion of adventure, late night giggles, and a continued, inexplicable bond of friendship that will surely only be further strengthened.
That, friends, is why I visited you today. I'm just sitting here with Roscoe, anxiously awaiting Morgan's arrival. I hope you enjoyed our little love story. Stay tuned for more adventures of Morgan and Sarah, or pop by my blog to keep up with us while Morgan is in town!

Scenes from a Weekend : V

scenesfromawkndV
I stayed in the city this weekend because a very special lady was having a birthday celebration. Saturday I got my haircut at Toni and Guy. I'm trying to grow it out, go for a long 70's with bangs kind of look, so it was nothing dramatic just a reshape. My favorite part is of course the little head massage they give you when they wash your hair. I wish that never ended. If you're looking for a good place to go in the city I'd definitely recommend them. Even when I lived in different cities I'd make the trek to get my haircut there. The few times I didn't I was always disappointed with the results from other salons. You should give them a try if you live in the area.

I took the long way home and did some window shopping and real shopping on the way back to my apartment where I bought a smaller french press to make my yerba mate in. When I got back I took Lua for a walk up to the park. My mind is always skipping through a million different things when we're walking. I wish I could carry a pad and write as I walk, but that'd be kind of tricky.

The always lovely Kim from Eat Sleep Wear came to the city this weekend with her boyfriend Brian and some of their Philly friends in tow to celebrate her birthday. I'm so glad that I got the chance to hang out with Kim again! She's been such a wonderful friend these past few months and I love spending time with her. She's about as genuine as they come. It was a welcome break to meet some new faces and hear some new stories. We swung by Magnolia Bakery for a birthday treat for Kim and serenaded her with a terribly off key "Happy Birthday" right there on the sidewalk.

MelissaChristine, and Jenni were among the group out to celebrate with Kim. Sometimes I really can't believe that this little project I started has given me the opportunity to meet so many interesting people. I can't wait to hang out with everyone again in the city.

I woke up very late Sunday morning and started the day off right with an egg sandwich and of course a yerba mate. I can't go a day without them now. This weekend was exactly what I needed. Had it not been for Kim being born, this weekend might have gone a very different direction for me. So thank you Kim for being born. I don't know what I would have done without you.

With that said, I'm off! I'm heading to visit a very good friend for a few days (you'll get filled in on that Wednesday afternoon). I'm so happy to have some of my favorite ladies sit in for me while I'm gone. I asked each of them to post something special, so make sure you check back to see what it's all about!
This vacation could not have come at a better time for me. I'm ready to have a break from here and get some new experiences under my belt. I'll be tweeting as per usual, except I'm sure my tone will be much much happier. I'm so excited to see what is going to be popping up here! Talk to you all soon!

A Comfortable Morning

comfortable
Last Saturday I got dressed in the most comfortable morning outfit. I found this sweater in the back of my Dad's closet. I've been looking for a cream cable knit sweater for autumn, it was perfect timing. I knew I wanted to wear my big gray scarf because it's so soft. I thought I'd add more color so I put on my blue-green plaid scarf as well. Two soft scarves and an oversized sweater, makes for a wonderfully huggable morning.

I made breakfast and some tea and was relaxing on the deck with Lua when I decided to take some pictures at my parents house. I usually venture out to find locations but I thought it was fitting to take pictures at home since this was such a morning with tea, shuffle about the house outfit.

I mentioned a while ago that my Mom had found her old clogs in her closet. I think she started looking a little bit after I let the cat out of the bag about having a blog. I've been wearing a lot of her things recently. I'm actually wearing almost all my parents clothes here. It's a good thing they're ok with sharing.

It's interesting to think about the fact that these things my parents have had for such a long time are possibly more in style now then when they first bought them years ago. I've seen so many classic cable knit sweaters popping up as well as olive tones and of course clogs have been everywhere. So without buying anything new I'm able to come up with something that is pretty current from used items found in the back of my parents closet.

Beyond that, I can imagine my mom wearing this when the clogs were new. A fall morning in the early 70's, my Mom walking around the house getting ready to go to beach to watch my Dad surf. That seems about right. This day I wore them around the house in the morning making tea and eating pumpkin bread then in the afternoon when I headed to the beach with Lua

This outfit wasn't just comfortable to wear, it was comforting to be in. The fact that I had on things that belong to my parents made me feel very relaxed and cozy wearing them. Sometimes a certain piece can feel warm and homey. Do you have any outfits or items of clothing that feel just like home to you? Outfits that feel like a laid back morning with tea and puppy kisses?

I did a little redesign on Friday, which is why I was unable to post these pictures then. It took all day, 9am until the wee hours of the morning spent googling and testing. There are still a few things I'd like to rework a bit, but I'm trying to give my brain a coding break. I hope you like it so far!

Beach with Lua

beach with lua
I wanted to share some more pictures I took at the beach on Saturday. I had so many of Lua I thought she should get her own post. It's nice to be able to let her run around, especially when I'm in the city all week and have to keep her on a leash all the time. As you can see she really loves the beach.

This is my first video! I finally started to play around with my camera over the weekend. I still have no idea how to edit video so it's pretty dark. I could barely see Lua when I was videotaping it was so bright out. That jingling sound is all the tags on her necklace (aka her collar for non crazy dog owners). Enjoy her little romp around the dunes and how she impatiently waits for me to throw the stick into the water.

Hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to edit videos in the future. I'd really like to make it a regular thing. What do you think?
